The faucet in my bathtub would not turn off all the way after using it a few days ago. It's an american standard three stem faucet (i think those are the right terms, still new to this home owner thing!). I tried removing the handles and putting some plumbers tape on the stem to tighten the seal, but it didn't make any difference. Hi all, i shut off the water and removed the valve and the water is still leaking.

Any idea what could be causing the problem. I don’t want to buy a new valve if that isn’t the cause of the leak. At first i went the cheap route and tried to use just new gaskets with same cartridge but didn’t work. I had to eventually replace the cartridge to get the thing to stop leaking.

I am not sure if this is a water pressure issue or not. We do not have a water pressure regulator for the house. Perhaps the water pressure has risen due to summer months? Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

The tub spout is most likely a slip on. Allen wrench to loosen the screw in the slot on the underside of the spout. Pull it off, slide a new one on and tighten the screw. The shower should not be effected that badly by a spout leaking unless it isn't sealing at all.

Remove the shower head from the hose.

My bathtub faucet is leaking hot water in a constant stream. I turned the water off and took it all apart again and the leak is coming from the seat portion of the hot water knob. Will this hurt the hot water heater in anyway until i can call someone in the am? The problem is that water is dripping from the faucet even when the handle is turned all the way shut.
